In a clear demonstration of adherence to democratic principles, norms and values, the Head of State declared on 17 September 2024 that all Zimbabwean Citizens are now chairing SADC, not him alone.
This message should be enough to silence critics who were blaming Munhumutapa for blowing resources towards hosting the SADC summit. The summit was for all of us and we can now all Chair the regional body.
Now being a chairperson comes with responsibilities. There is some decorum expected of the high office. It is now incumbent upon each Zimbabwean to conduct themselves in a manner befitting the SADC chairperson’s office. Those who choose to bring the name of the chair’s office into disrepute will face the consequences at law.
It is hoped that all the noise that was being done around corruption comes to an end. All SADC chairpersons in Zimbabwe should not publicize information damaging the brand of a chairing nation. Most of what is being called corruption is gift exchange as government appreciates different patriots who are offering outstanding services.
It will be embarrassing to hear some SADC Chair complaining about rigged elections. Why do we have to focus on our local elections when we are Chairing a region with 16 countries. The chapter of the 2023 elections is closed, Zimbabwe should focus on development until the Munhumutapa chooses to either retire or join his maker.
Mhesvamukono who continue to agitate for protests are tarnishing the image of the Chair. All patriots are encouraged to enjoy this stint of chairing without engaging sideshows. Honestly why protesting when you are chairing? Zimbabweans should endure the drought and take every economic hardship with a stride. The noise about Zig performance should come to an end. SADC chairs are not cry babies
