The run up to the coming SADC summit has been characterized with peace, a reflection of the consensus among Citizens that protests don’t work and should be buried.
The Second Republic has been hard at work advising citizens that protest culture was a thing of the past. It took long for the message to sink but Zimbabwe can now celebrate a dawn of a new era. The few “mhesvamukono” who refused to take heed of the advice from President Ruka Chivende have been dealt with at an individual level. Most of them have either fled the country or have completely reformed.
In 2019, post the violent protests against hiking of fuel prices, President Chivende declared that he was going after Doctors, lawyers and everyone who was supporting protest culture. Ofcourse he followed up to his word using carrots to those who were ready to be co-opted and sticks for those who resisted. The peace we enjoy today is a result of hard work. Opposition, Trade Unions and Civic society leaders received their carrots and are displaying good table manners.
The likes of Jacob Ngarivume, Job Sikhala, ZINASU leaders and ARTUZ leaders who refused to conform to the new rules have endured the stick from the Second Republic.
The Second Republic is also grateful to the purveyors of the God is in it doctrine which have given people hope of possible divine intervention to resolve the nation’s problems. The new opposition prays away all problems and won’t be enticed to protest.
The drafters of the new constitution were offside when they incorporated the right to peaceful protests. It is an unnecessary burden to the government of the day. The government is elected by the people, so the government is well aware of the needs of the people. The issue of petitioning and protesting never arises when there is a social contract. Of late the people have not been voting nicely but that’s mainly because of Sanctions. The State institutions have had to cure the regime change votes and maintain peace and stability.
Burying protest culture has made it possible for vote alignment to go unchallenged. Gift exchange among the elites is now being done freely. Delivery of social services such as education and health is no longer a priority. Workers owed USD 5000 can now get a small Zig token without any fuss.
Protest is buried, everyone is towing the line and a one-party state now a reality. Thank you President Ruka Chivende.
