The revolutionary party through its various organs and structures warned the opposition and the so called human rights activists (mhesvamikono) to away from President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s SADC throne. ZANU PF Youth League warned that “hapamihwemihwe” while party spokesperson, Christopher Mutsvangwa advised “mhesvamikono” against plotting demonstrations against Munhumutapa, President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The advice however fell on deaf ears! On June 16 a group of 79 opposition members composed mainly of women and youths gathered at Senator Jameson Timba’s residence in Avondale, all in the name of celebrating the Day of African Child. The easily opposition forget that we are now a one party state and any political gatherings outside ZANU PF are prohibited.
120 days after their arrest on June 16, Jameson Timba and 64 others are still in detention! Yes, bail is a constitutional right but the opposition must not forget that the ruling party determines who gets it not. “We are the army, we are the police, we are the judiciary, we are everything”, who can forget these words of warning from President Mnangagwa.
The loose mouthed Christopher Mutsvangwa sometimes gets offside and after the SADC summit he mistakenly told the media that all opposition activists were set to be freed now that the summit was over. Of course, he was not far from truth as the likes of Tineyi Munetsi, Bruce Moyo, Kariba 14, Gokwe 12, Robson Chere, Namatai Kwekweza, Samuel Gwenzi and a few others were let of the hook.
As for Jameson Timba who dared one of President Mnangagwa’s beloved sons, Sengezo Tshabangu, by contesting his legitimacy as Secretary General of CCC, he will remain behind bars. Pity for the 64 others including the disabled teacher, Ronald Hondongwa who are victims of circumstances.
The Second Republic has learnt a lot from its all weather friend, China. Forget about multiparty democracy and rule of law, Zimbabwe is now a one party state
