President Ruka Chivende is a genius! After sending ZANU PF supporters to vote in Mozambique polls held on 09 October, President Ruka Chivende is now reaping rewards.
Installed as SADC chairman on 17 August 2024, Ruka Chivende is going to chair his first SADC Extraordinary meeting just three months after assuming chairmanship of the regional bloc.
Mozambique is currently embroiled in a serious political crisis with the opposition accusing the ruling party, FRELIMO of rigging elections. There is also evidence of ZANU PF supporters who were caught on camera bragging that they voted for FRELIMO to protect their party’s regional interests.
ZANU PF has never been shy of its support for FRELIMO government citing the role the Mozambicans played in supporting Zimbabwe’s liberation war in the 1970s.
President Ruka Chivende whose other nom de guerre from his Mozambican war days is Skokripiko Rodriguez Dozzo epitomizes ZANU PF support for FRELIMO. Days before official announcement of Mozambique election results, Skokripiko had already congratulated Daniel Chapo and FRELIMO for winning polls.
Skokripiko turned his head away from the killings of opposition members including Paul Guambe and Elvino Bernardo Antonio Dias. In the true spirit of solidarity (of dictators) Skokripiko remained tight-lipped on issues of human rights violations in Mozambique.
Ruka Chivende himself is also a product of contested election outcome in Zimbabwe. Can he find a solution to the Mozambican crisis in his capacity as a SADC chair in the upcoming Extraordinary Summit? Isn’t it a case of a mosquito curing malaria?
