Ruka Chivende, our knock-off Chief Mwenemutapa, has sent food aid to his Mozambican pal, President El Chapo Daniel. Neighbourly love, they call it.
Meanwhile, over three million Zimbabweans are surviving on boiled air and hope soup.
Hunger is nothing new here — we’ve been fasting for decades without a church crusade.
Mozambicans have their own government and rich friends.
Now they have our maize too.
Back home, Japan is sending US$1.3 million in food aid.
China has also chipped in.
The irony is that we give food away and then beg for it back.
Critics say charity should begin at home. Ruka says it begins in Maputo.
After all, Mozambique helped him sweep Uncle Bob into retirement in 2017.
So, Zimbabweans, be patient.
Your leader is busy feeding neighbours and polishing his SADC badge.
You’ll get attention once he’s done exporting your dinner.
Until then, enjoy the national dish: empty promises with a pinch of resilience.
