Mr. Strong ZIG recently dismissed the conspiracy that he wants to unconstitutionally extend his rule beyond his two terms, which end in 2028, an act that some took with caution and many disbelieved due to his repeated mutilation of the constitution.
Just a few days ago, the entire student body was shocked by the news that five Midlands State University student activists from the Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) were untimely, irrationally, and absurdly suspended by the Vice Chancellor (VC) of MSU, Professor Muzvidziwa, for massively recruiting students to join ZINASU.
The names of the suspended ZINASU comrades are Nester Moyo, Fanuel Gona, Keagan Mathe, Takunda Mhuka, and Tanaka Sibanda.
Takunda Mhuka, who was staying on the university campus, was militantly woken up by university security guards at 2 a.m. and forced to nocturnally pack and travel back to his homestead in Wedza as if he were a terrorist ringleader.
Despite Section 58 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe dictating freedoms of association, the ZINASU Five, as they are now popularly known, were suspended and are facing possible expulsion from the university, all for practicing their right to association.
This absurd move by VC Professor Muzvidziwa was received by many as the final nail in the coffin of democracy and a step toward North Korean-style iron authoritarianism, which is choreographed by the ruling ZANU PF to silence any voices that think differently.
The director of that dance is none other than The Constitutionalist himself.
ZINASU is being targeted because, since time immemorial, the left-leaning student movement has been defending constitutional rights and practices in Zimbabwe.
ZINASU has been known for advocating for political rights, student rights, and constitutional rights.
The Midlands ZANU PF persuaders, led by the notorious militia leader Owen “Mudha” Ncube, did not receive ZINASU’s initiative at MSU politely, as it could disrupt their 2030 unconstitutional agenda.
A student union is being victimized for exercising student unionism and association, which is constitutionally guaranteed and not in opposition to any university statutes.
On the other hand, ZANU PF-funded ZICOSU parades at Midlands State University in ZANU PF regalia, and they seem to be insulated from the same statutes used against Nester Moyo, Fanuel Gona, Keagan Mathe, Takunda Mhuka, and Tanaka Sibanda.
